Colorado State University hosted a tour Tuesday of Hughes Stadium to inform Fort Collins students and residents on the current state of the stadium.

Hughes was built in 1964 and did not see a renovation until 2006. Some of the glaring issues are the concrete, piping across the stadium, wheelchair accessibility, seating and locker rooms, according to Steve Hultin, CSU’s Facilities Management director.

“As a facilities director, it pains me to ask for money for a facility that is used six times a year, as opposed to academic buildings, and other buildings on main campus that have use daily,” Hultin said.

On the tour, officials also discussed how a new on-campus stadium would be able to hold other functions besides football, like soccer and lacrosse, whereas Hughes can only accommodate football games.

“There is so much to be done, and it’s a beautiful setting,” said Anita Rite, a Fort Collins resident who took the tour.

CSU President Tony Frank will make his decisions regarding the on-campus stadium in December during the Board of Governors meeting.
