The CSU Police Department is investigating the similarities of two incidents of sexual assault that occurred at the Jack Christiansen Memorial Track about a month-and-a-half from each other against one female and one male CSU student.
Campus police have also increased patrols in the area.

Police have linked the two incidents because they both occurred at the Jack Christiansen Memorial Track. CSU Public Relations Director Mike Hooker could not confirm whether the acts were committed by the same person.
According to the Director of the Women and Gender Advocacy Center, Kathy Sisneros, these incidents are more than the center has seen in past years. “We’re here, we’re ready, whenever the student is ready,” Sisneros said.
Students received a text message from the university at 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 alerting them of a sex assault against a female student. The victim was walking on the track when a male suspect in possession of a pocket knife attacked her from behind, wearing a ski mask, Levi’s jeans and a Carhartt-style jacket.
On Sept. 13 around 8 p.m., a male victim reported being pushed to the ground by a male wearing a ski mask. The assailant was described as being about 6 feet tall, 180-200 lbs with a raspy voice, CSU’s Public Safety Team reported in their incident report, clarifying that it was an attempted sexual assault.
The spokesman could not confirm if the suspect involved in Oct. 25 assault, or the Sept. 13 assault escaped.
The investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released by police at this time, according to officials. Anyone with information is encouraged to call CSUPD at 970-491-6425.
