I am most delighted to make your acquaintance, my starry-eyed sweeties! I’m Sophia Joy, the new horoscope writer, and I am tickled pink to share my astrological insights with you all for the coming year. This week contains the same exuberant and creative Leo energy you’ve already had the pleasure of experiencing this month.
Sunday, Aug. 16
In the beginning of the week, there will be a Libra moon in a beautiful 60-degree angle to Mercury. With this aspect, your head and heart are effectively communicating so having multiple things going on at once is actually likely to be efficient right now. Juggle finding your lost RamCard, judging your roommate’s wall decor choices and figuring out the washing machine all at the same time with success.
Also on Sunday, Mars and Pluto enter an awkward 150-degree aspect in the sky, making your desires impossible to ignore. This may drive you to take competitive action toward whatever is floating your boat right now, whether that means calling your mom or engaging in some retail therapy involving Ram Squishmallows. Just make sure your determination to get what you want doesn’t hinder your relationships. For example, consider asking your roommate before covering your window in sticky notes spelling out a strongly worded message for lucky passersby to read.
If you happen to be awake at midnight, you may feel a wave of gratitude for the luck you have with Venus in Libra with a positive aspect to Jupiter in Leo. Look at the stars and say a quick “Thank you” for all that you have.
Monday, Aug. 17
During the early morning hours on Monday, Mars creeps into a harsh square angle with Neptune. Feelings of helplessness and sadness are common with this aspect. Treat yourself like you would a newborn puppy — babysit your young heart and be kind to it. Don’t let your fears or your troubles get the best of you because fear-based decisions may come back to bite you.
Tuesday, Aug. 18
My advice is simple: Give yourself a break from yourself. It’s normal to feel emotionally overwhelmed when a Scorpio moon falls headfirst into a difficult aspect with Jupiter. Although it might feel like it, no one is expecting you to laminate your plan for the next 15 years of your life. Give it a rest. The best thing you can do this day is simply enjoy yourself. Buy yourself a matcha, take a walk and smile at a stranger — and don’t overthink it if they don’t smile back.
Wednesday, Aug. 19
As we enter the middle of the week, our mysterious Scorpio moon squares Mercury, so your focus may scatter like marbles across the floor, but you’re doing amazing, sweetie! After this mercurial difficulty, the week will become more light-hearted as the moon enters Sagittarius on Thursday. This is a great day to read your class syllabi and locate your classes, while the cosmos supports optimism, curiosity and an open mind.
Thursday, Aug. 20
The moon also trines Neptune on Thursday, creating a window of opportunity to genuinely connect with others. Meanwhile, Lilith, a calculated lunar point in astrology, trines the Sun, freeing you to express your creativity boldly and unapologetically. In other words, it’s time to put your most authentic foot forward as you meet new people this week.
Friday, Aug. 21
On Friday, our lovely Venus opposes Saturn in the heavens. On this day, you may be convinced that chores are the bane of your existence. Instead of calling your landlord about that mysterious patch on your ceiling, you may be tempted to get reacquainted with your good friend, Netflix. This Venus-Saturn aspect is known to produce an undercurrent of loneliness, but this is actually a great day for some alone time. Remember that it’s normal to feel a bit melancholy with this aspect.
Saturday, Aug. 22
We’ve finally reached the weekend, rockstars! On Saturday, the sun enters Virgo, pivoting the momentum away from self-expression and toward work and organization. This weekend is a great time to organize your life, clean out your OneDrive and get into a routine. Use this astrological support to prepare for classes on Monday and scratch off your last summer to-dos.
At 3 p.m. Saturday, the sun joins the South Node in a conjunction. Expect to feel physically and emotionally drained as the sky temporarily clouds your light, allowing you to release your emotional baggage. Your goals may fade into the background while you use this weekend to recharge and let go of old patterns that are no longer serving you.
This week, care for yourself as you begin to sort out your goals for this semester. Next week’s astrology encompasses themes of self-awareness, emotional healing and communication.
Stay starry-eyed, keep cool and I’ll see you for next week’s forecast!
