For this week’s installment of Roastin’ with Rick, I turn again to the exciting and surprising experience of reviewing a hybrid. Last time, I reviewed the indica-dominant hybrid MKLA, but this week I’ll be looking into the popular hybrid, Girl Scout Cookies.

A crossbreed between OG Kush and Durban Poison, this strain from Organic Alternatives had a THC level of 20.88 percent and a relatively evened-out balance of indica and sativa qualities.

For the most part, I’m pretty neutral on the smell. It might have been because I had a cold coming on this past week (like everyone else on campus), but the scent didn’t standout too much. It wasn’t too pungent and there wasn’t a lot going on, but it had a simple, sweet, earthy scent. There was a slight element of skunkiness to it, but it’s nothing that’ll stink-up the whole house — just enough to enjoy its presence in the bud’s aroma.

Now the smell may not have sold me, but the color and texture of this bud definitely caught my attention. The dark green and purple vegetation was the perfect background for the bright orange hairs poking out everywhere. Along with that there was so much keef coating the exterior of each bud that it looked like a glittering spiderweb had been tightly wrapped around the surface.

Just by looking at them I could tell that the buds of this strain were incredibly dense; to no surprise, a little will go a long way with this stuff. On that note, grinding Girl Scout Cookies by hand was not the best idea — bud was sticking to my fingers and when I finished, the residue stayed at my fingertips for a good while.

When smoking the Girl Scout Cookies (it’s a lot of fun to say, “I’m smoking Girl Scout Cookies”), I used Kind Creations‘ single-oil drum, 12-armed showerhead bong, and once again, it was awesome. You can take very slow and drawn-out, milky hits out of this piece and the most you’ll cough afterward is a small bark to clear your throat. Once again, I was starting to get a cold and I still didn’t cough that much, which is always a good sign.

Part of that lack of coughing is also due to the Girl Scout Cookies’ smoothness. The smoke, even when consuming it with a small pipe or vape pen, was always smooth. Each hit was also very clear when it came to exhibiting the bud’s flavor — a light and enjoyable smokey flavor incorporating an interesting sweetness, which played off the slight hint of skunkiness.

For the most part I was not a big fan of the high from this strain. I’ve said it once, I’ve actually said twice, but a third time it is: it may have been because I was getting sick. Anyhow, the come-up and first 45 minutes of the high was pretty nice. I felt a good body-high coming on with deep muscle relaxation and a strong euphoric, giggly head high. Then, things started to slowly go downhill.

I started to get a whirling paranoia, and it seemed as if my sinuses were slowly getting super congested. There were a few moments of anxious thoughts during the buzz too — nothing too stressful, but I definitely wouldn’t say it was a fun experience.

I may have to give another review of this strain in the future, but for now I’m going to have to give Girl Scout Cookies a total of 4 leaves out of ten.

Thanks for reading and hopefully my next review will bring better highs and better vibes. Also, make sure to checkout the Collegian Green Report for more of my reviews as well as marijuana news and more at greenreport.collegian.com

If you see a hole in anything, you’ve got to quickly stitch it, tape it, or even staple it.
