Rhoads: Colorado’s famous activities aren’t as accessible as you might think

Darien Rhoads, Collegian Columnist March 5, 2024
Colorado’s attractiveness for out-of-staters is largely due to outdoor access and activities like skiing and hiking that come with it. As a Coloradan, I can attest that in these communities, outdoor activities and status symbol are deeply correlated.

Dear humans: I’d like to start this off by noting that we’ve always had a decent relationship. You've left us to do what we do; we leave you to do the same. If either party encroaches on that line, justified consequences naturally ensue.

Vogl: Your favorite slang terms originated from drag culture

Claire Vogl, Copy Editor February 27, 2024
It seems as though a new word or phrase enters the limelight of popular culture every week. Whether it gains attention through TikTok or Twitter, it quickly becomes ingrained in the language of — primarily — Gen Z individuals.

Most people never think that horror movies can come to life. Stories about ghosts and monsters are simply tales to scare us. The idea of monsters being real is too far-fetched for anyone to give it a second thought.

Souza: Email etiquette is dying, but it shouldn’t be

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist February 20, 2024
No, you should not include “lol” in that email to your physics professor. As slang and language continue to adapt over the decades, the ways in which we communicate — within relationships, friendships and classrooms — adapt, too.

As college students, we spend a fair amount of time studying. And there are so many places that you can study around campus from: the Lory Student Center to the Behavioral Sciences Building and even the Morgan Library. In fact, during my time at Colorado State University I have discovered that most of the buildings across campus have tables for students to sit and study at.

LTTE: Sign Initiative 89 petition to protect abortion rights

Guest Author February 19, 2024
The new fight to protect abortion rights is underway, and now is the time for students to pitch in. You may have seen the canvassers in the plaza asking “Are you a registered voter in Colorado?” or “Do you want to protect abortion?” and it is worthwhile to take a moment to sign this petition.

Pavelko: America has a weird conception of Valentine’s Day

Hana Pavelko, Collegian Columnist February 14, 2024
In elementary school, almost everyone grew up making mailboxes and trading pieces of candy with their classmates for Valentine’s Day.
