Colorado State soccer was rewarded for their lock-tight defense in their weekend matchups Oct. 5 and 7 as junior defender Halley Havlicek was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Going 1-0-1 on the weekend, the Rams held both the Air Force Academy and Colorado College without a goal in their pair of home matchups. The pair of shutouts represented the first two-game scoreless streak for the Rams’ opposition in program history.
In their matchup against the Falcons, the Rams failed to yield a single shot on goal, also a first in program history. The streak extended into their second matchup of the weekend, ending with a shot on goal by the Tigers in the 59th minute, a 148-minute streak in total.
The defender represents the third Ram of the year to be given a weekly award, with the most recent being Beth Plentl prior to Havlicek’s accolade. The trio of awards is second in the Moutain West conference this year, trailing only Boise State Unversity (4).
Prior to this season, the program only tallied one weekly award winner in their previous five seasons.
CSU travels to California for their next matchups against a pair of Mountain West opponents Oct. 12 and 14. The Rams play at San Jose State University and Fresno State University respectively with the Bulldogs being the latter matchup.
