If you live in the state of Colorado it is crucial that you act now to protect reproductive rights.
When talking to young people on Colorado State University’s campus, it is clear that many feel that their bodily autonomy is at risk. Many students have watched as the Texas Heartbeat Act, Senate Bill 8, has caused immense difficulty for birthing people. This is terrifying for young people who want to continue to make their own life decisions.
On Thursday, September 30, 2021, the cover of The Collegian newspaper featured an illustration of a blue-haired police officer standing in front of a police vehicle, enticing readers to examine an article titled, “CSUPD Mental Health Co-Responder Program Launches.” The article reports that the Colorado State University Police Department and UCHealth are partnering to send two-person teams — one behavioral health officer and one police officer — to intervene in situations the police deem capable of being de-escalated.

As a college student during this pandemic, I, like many of my peers, have had the “best years of my life” uprooted and my future put on hold while decision makers determine when we can resume some sort of normalcy. As a young person born into a climate and extinction crisis, I am unable to ignore drastic global biodiversity loss leading to pandemics under which so many have suffered.
Did you know that 22% of undergraduate college students have children? That means that one out of every five students you talk to on this campus has little ones waiting for them at home. We’re glad to hear the Colorado State University System and the City of Fort Collins have formalized their intention to uphold democracy and preserve the land today known as Hughes Public Open Land for the entire community, visitors and all generations to come.
In late May, we all breathed a sigh of relief. COVID-19 cases had dropped dramatically in Larimer County and with that, there were fewer hospitalizations and deaths. As our community got vaccinated, local businesses rebounded, kids returned to in-person learning, participated in sports, went to summer camp, musicians got back on stage and we all finally felt safer visiting our friends and family.Â
