Two years ago, Garrett Grayson was competing for Colorado State’s starting quarterback job with sophomore Conner Smith. Friday, he realized his dream of becoming an NFL quarterback.

The former CSU quarterback, who set every major career passing record in CSU history in just two years as a starter, was selected by the New Orleans Saints with the 75th overall pick (No. 11 in Round 3) in the 2015 NFL Draft Friday.

Grayson, a native of Vancouver, Washington, was projected by most draft experts to be a second- or third-round pick, and one of the top five quarterbacks in this year’s class.

As a senior, Grayson was named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year and first-team all-conference, starting all 13 games, completing 64.3% of his passes (270-420) for 4,006 yards and 32 touchdowns, with seven interceptions. His 4,006 passing yards set a new CSU single-season passing record and ranked 4th in NCAA FBS in 2014.

Grayson is the second CSU player to be selected in the 2015 draft after offensive tackle Ty Sambrailo was taken by the Denver Broncos with the 59th overall pick. Grayson and Sambrailo were also the first two players selected from any Mountain West team, and gave CSU two picks in the first three rounds for the second year in a row.
