The CSU men’s rugby team is looking for students to join the club program. The Rams are only two practices into their season and are always looking for new members.
Last season CSU achieved success after being crowned conference champions of the Division I-A West league with its victory over in-state rival CU-Boulder from a late kick in the match. The Rams went on to reach the Elite-8 and are pushing to make it even further in the 2013 national championship title run.
Team General Manager Blake Stevens encourages all who have any interest, even the slightest, to come participate with the team. All who come out to practice will earn a spot on the squad.
“We just want everybody to know that there’s always a spot for the kids who think they want to give it a try,” Stevens said. “It doesn’t matter the size; small, skinny, big, tall, short ,wide — there’s positions for all of them.”
The team practices on the campus intermural fields on Mondays and Fridays from 6-8 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 7-9 p.m. on the football practice field.
The Rams begin their season next Saturday against the University of Wyoming at home.
“We really did some good things and doubled down last year,” Stevens said. “We’re looking to do it again this year, so it should be fun.”
