Search teams descended upon an Ault landfill Thursday in pursuit of a baby’s body.

The 13-month old Cheyenne boy, whose name has not yet been released, was believed to have been dumped in a Wyoming trash can before being transported to a landfill just east of Fort Collins.

The body was believed to have been taken to a landfill along Highway 14, according to the Laramie Sheriff’s Office.

The boy was reported missing on Saturday after the boy’s grandfather called 911 after the child’s mother told him she hadn’t seen the boy since the past weekend.

The woman’s boyfriend had reportedly given the child to a man named “Santiago” who was taking him on a fishing trip, the sheriff’s office said.

Neither the mother nor boyfriend knew the whereabouts of “Santiago” or his last name.

Detective found out that the child had been dumped into a trash bin in Larimer County Community College. The bin was collected and taken to the Colorado landfill.

It is unknown how deputies learned the body was left at Larimer County Community College.

The Weld County Sheriff’s office had been called in when Wyoming officials asked for help with the search of the landfill, which is located about 6 miles east of the Larimer county boundary.

The investigation is ongoing and the child has not yet been found.
