The College of Agricultural Sciences are hosting their annual Ag Day fall tradition with a tailgate BBQ on Sept. 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the south parking lot of Hughes Stadium.
Assistant Dean of Agricultural Sciences Mary Griffith said the goal of the event is to celebrate Colorado’s agricultural heritage and fund scholarships for the College of Agriculture.

General tickets cost $17, and $7 for students. Students can buy tickets at Moby Arena or the Shepardson Building. BBQ attendance is limited. Tickets can also be bought at the event with limited availability. The event is open to the public, but tickets must be bought for a meal.
Local producers donate all the food for the event and items served include beef, pork, lamb, potatoes, beans, wheat and ice cream. Beer can also be purchased separately. This is the 35th anniversary of Ag Day and the last year it will be held at Hughes Stadium. Griffith said next year it will be held on campus due to the new stadium, but the new location has not been confirmed.
At 12 p.m. Don Brown, Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture and Dr. Ajay Menon, Dean of Agricultural Sciences will speak. Scholarship recipients will be recognized during this time and also during half time at the football game. Last year the event raised $40,000 toward scholarships for students.
Ag Day has several activities for attendees. A live band will play, and the marching band will make an appearance. In addition, there will be farm displays and CSU agricultural student groups have booths. Garden plants will be handed out to take home. Ag Day will also include tractors and a forestry display.
There is also t-shirts and hats for sale for $15. Griffith said this is the first year they have sold a t-shirt and maybe the last. The t-shirt is in honor of the last Ag Day at Hughes Stadium and on the front it says, “35 Years Under the A”. The game is an orange out in honor of CSU’s roots as the Aggies. When CSU was Colorado A&M the school colors were alfalfa green and pumpkin orange.
