Gender variables may show salary discrepancies, says professor

report by statistics professor Mary Meyer details an analysis of salaries of regular faculty at Colorado State University. The salaries database, analyzed by Meyer, outlined gender as a variable for faculty salaries.

According to Meyer’s report, there may be existing pay discrepancies and target salaries based on gender for the fiscal year 2014. Her results are based on 1,045 units that represent tenured or tenure-track faculty at CSU.

Meyer’s results show a comparative analysis of salaries across the University. Variables include gender, rank and seniority. According to her results, the median salary given to female professors (across all departments) is considerably lower than that for males with the same ranking.

The initial salary report that outlined gender-based variables has since been removed. The University said Monday it will not use gender as a variable for salary analysis in the future, as reported earlier in the Coloradoan.
