The Colorado State Horticulture Club is selling peaches as a fundraiser Sept. 3 through Sept. 5, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. outside of Shepardson Hall.
The sale will fund their trip to the annual Mid American Collegiate Horticultural Society (MACHS) in Fargo, North Dakota in October, where the club members will put their knowledge of fruits and other plants to the test by competing against horticulture clubs from universities around the Midwest.
They will compete in plant identification, fruit quality judging and general horticultural knowledge.
Last year, they took home third place and are hoping to improve their standing this year.
The peaches come from Osito Orchard in Hotchkiss, Colorado, a peach orchard owned by former CSU professor Frank Stonaker. The peaches are in a two-year transition from being conventionally grown to organically grown, meaning that in a year the peaches will be certifiably organic.
Preorder for the sale starts Friday, Aug. 29. A case of peaches is $45 and a half case is $25. Forms will be available at the Department of Horticulture in Shepardson Hall. Drop off preorder forms at the Department of Horticulture or the vegetable stand outside of the Plant Environmental Research Center Thursday, Aug. 28 from 4 to 6 p.m.
