CSU comes out with first victory since week 2

Fourth Quarter: Colorado State 49, Fresno State 21

The Bulldogs were 5-1; meanwhile, CSU was losing hope from its fans. But right out of the gate, the Rams were dominant, and despite having a slower second half, they kept the lead.

This was CSU’s strongest game of the season, multiple individual breakout performances that strengthened the power of the win.

Jace Bellah pulls out with another interception for CSU

Fourth Quarter: Colorado State 42, Fresno State 21

Jace Bellah is not letting FSU keep the ball in possession. After Bellah’s interception, he ran for 26 yards.

CSU continues to fight, defense pushes results

Fourth Quarter: Colorado State 42, Fresno State 21

With 4:30 left in the game, FSU was mere yards away from the end zone. In fact, E.J. Warner made the pass to the end zone, was intercepted by CSU’s CJ Blocker.

CSU offense surges again, scores touchdown

Fourth Quarter: Colorado State 42, Fresno State 21

Another pop from CSU.

Javion Kinnard caught the ball from Jackson Brousseau and ran it, gaining a total of 41 yards. Kinnard went down after the play, but was able to walk with a limp off the field.

Lloyd Avant drove it home and wedged the gap to a 21-point lead for the Rams.

Justin Marshall heads to medical tent after going down on field

Fourth Quarter: Colorado State 35, Fresno State 21

In a night where there were almost no injuries for the Rams, Justin Marshall went down. CSU’s already dealt with several key players being out on injury, and now Marshall. He’s currently leading both teams in rushing yards at 93.

Only one scoring drive in the third quarter, but CSU is maintaining the lead. Not much yardage gained, but the fight isn’t done.

Third Quarter: Colorado State 35, Fresno State 21

Rayshon Luke breaks through, staying open for a pass from E.J. Warner, securing the 23-yard touchdown. Nothing too special from either team besides the touchdown, penalties on both sides rising.

CSU goes into halftime with sizeable lead

End of Second Quarter/First Half: Colorado State 35, Fresno State 14

CSU’s strongest first quarter yet this season with five touchdowns, meanwhile the defense is still going strong with none other than Owen Long at the helm with 12 tackles, six solo ones.

CSU offense blooms within chaos, Paul Tangelo scores touchdown

Second Quarter: Colorado State 35, Fresno State 7

It was a mess of players on the field, FSU trying to shut down the ball. But in the chaos emerged Paul Tangelo.

Tangelo ran for 36 yards and racked another touchdown just ten seconds after Rocky Beers scored one.

Jackson Brousseau, Rocky Beers work together for another touchdown

Second Quarter: Colorado State 28, Fresno State 7

After a 5-yard penalty from FSU, the Rams used it to their advantage and chose to go for the touchdown after previously lining up for a field goal. Quarterback Jackson Brousseau is racking up the passing yards after another solid one to Rocky Beers. CSU works to widen the gap with a 20-yard touchdown.

Second Quarter: Colorado State 21, Fresno State 0

The Rams score yet another touchdown with a pass from Jackson Brousseau to Rocky Beers. A solid way for CSU to open the second quarter. Good kick attempt from Isaiah Hankins.

Lloyd Avant gained seven yards for CSU before the quarter ended. The Rams will start off the next quarter with just five yards to push through.

Not only is CSU’s defense allowing big bursts, and while the Bulldogs tried to gain yardage, Jace Bellah had a different plan, intercepting the ball.

Both sides starting off solid, neither tearing through yet

First Quarter: Colorado State 0, Fresno State 0

The Bulldogs ended their first possession with 32 yards — 29 of those passing. E.J. Warner is looking solid for FSU with a 100% passing completion. Owen Long notched the first sack of the night for CSU.

A battle to the top.

Colorado State football is looking for redemption. Not only did the Rams lose to Fresno State last season, but the Bulldogs currently sit at the top of the Mountain West pyramid with a five-game win streak.

With the loss of multiple captains and starters due to injury, CSU is adjusting to the new faces on the field. Entering the 2025 season, 14 of the 21 seniors were new to Canvas Stadium while a few bigger names for the Rams graduated to a bigger field.

Although it hasn’t been the smoothest start to the year, CSU hasn’t given up hope as it goes into its second game of the MW season.

Sophie Webb, Sports Editor
Sophie Webb is returning as the sports editor for The Collegian, expanding her love of journalism beyond the classroom.  Writing has always fascinated Webb, who has been writing short stories since third grade. In high school, she decided to try her hand at journalism. Soon after discovering her passion for journalism, she began working for The Collegian while in high school, and after her first semester of college, she was named sports editor.  This year, Webb aims to push herself out of her comfort zone and consistently expand the sports desk, whether that involves helping writers discover their place within the field or collaborating with other departments to increase the quality of content and level of engagement. The Collegian has not only allowed her the opportunity to further her writing and leadership skills but has also given her a second home in the newsroom. Walking in every day confirms she made the right choice in following her passion. Webb knows she can make an impact through her writing, which is why she plans on becoming a full-time journalist post-graduation and, for her next three years at Colorado State University, honing her craft. If not writing or taking photos, Webb can be found hiking, listening to music or traveling to her next country.
Michael Hovey
Michael Hovey, Sports Editor
The best experiences come unexpectedly. For Michael Hovey, that idea manifested in the form of a sports editor role for The Collegian last year. As a returning editor in 2025-26, he’s set his sights on supporting his team and trying not to think about leaving all the amazing people he’s met. As a storyteller, Hovey wants to dig a little deeper and possibly uncover something worth reading. With the help of his co-editor, Sophie Webb, and the rest of The Collegian, Hovey hopes to expand the sports desk’s multimedia presence. He understands the role of a journalist has evolved, and he aims to help set up his peers for success. In reality, though, he never expected to be here. Hovey valued stability when he picked a business degree with a concentration in marketing, but telling human stories was really his intention. He stumbled upon The Collegian at the recommendation of his girlfriend, and he’s extremely fortunate for that. Through sports, his passion for creation has grown, and his knack for going a step further past the box score has improved. He knew from a young age he wouldn’t make it far as an athlete, but Hovey’s learned how to immerse himself in the storylines that come with each game and each person. In his time away from his jobs and school, he’ll be soaking up every moment in his final year of college, spending time with the people he cares about and sharing meals as often as he can.
Cait Mckinzie
Cait Mckinzie, Photo Director
Cait Mckinzie is a third-year student double majoring in art and journalism and media communication. She is the returning photo director for the 2025-26 school year. As an out-of-state student from Renton, Washington, there wasn’t much in Fort Collins Mckinzie was familiar with when she first started at Colorado State University. But in high school, she was the co-head of visuals for her school newspaper, so she applied to The Collegian as a photographer during her first year to get back into a similar environment. At the end of her year as a freelancer, she was trained by Milo Gladstein and Garrett Mogel, her photo directors, to take over Gladstein’s position when he graduated. She attributes most of her photojournalistic experience — and some of her sense of humor — to them. Most of Mckinzie’s photography experience, though, comes from her grandfather. A photographer for most of his life, he gifted Mckinzie her first camera in her junior year of high school and taught her how to use it. With his guidance, she improved her skills during high school enough to get her to The Collegian, a paper that now takes up a large amount of her time. Mckinzie is excited for another year at The Collegian and aims to make her photo desk one Gladstein and Mogel would be proud of.
