A little over a week ago, Kyle Rittenhouse, the 18-year-old who shot and killed two protestors before injuring a third, was found not guilty on all counts by a Wisconsin jury. People have been arguing endlessly over whether the verdict was just or not.
On Thursday, September 30, 2021, the cover of The Collegian newspaper featured an illustration of a blue-haired police officer standing in front of a police vehicle, enticing readers to examine an article titled, “CSUPD Mental Health Co-Responder Program Launches.” The article reports that the Colorado State University Police Department and UCHealth are partnering to send two-person teams — one behavioral health officer and one police officer — to intervene in situations the police deem capable of being de-escalated.

Shortly after coming back to Colorado State University’s campus after fall break, sophomore Allen Wrench discovered that his bike had been stolen yet again.
“I was fed up to say the least,” Wrench said. “Even my roommate’s bike got stolen last month and his bike was a piece of shit.”

Colleges campuses often serve as a ground-zero of sorts for national social movements that have lived on into the 21st century. Some notable examples of collegiate activism may come to mind first: the Berkeley Free Speech Movement, The Harvard student strike of 1969 against the Vietnam War or even the tragic shooting at the Kent State University protests.
As November is Indigenous History Month, and The Collegian staff has many history buffs in its midst, we wanted to create a special edition that would incorporate the history of this land and the stories of this City and campus that we call home. The intent of this publication is to learn and understand what came before us, while both celebrating and critiquing our roots, both at Colorado State University and in the Northern Colorado area.
If you live in Fort Collins, chances are you’re familiar with the U+2 law.
According to the City of Fort Collins, the law states: “Occupancy in a residential dwelling unit (single-family, duplex and multifamily) is restricted to one family ... and not more than one additional person; or one adult and their dependents (if any), a second adult and their dependents (if any) and not more than one additional person."
Imagine sitting down in a middle school or high school history class. You might recognize the seats around you and see the familiar faces, but what history do you remember learning in that class?
Students at Colorado State University hear the Land Acknowledgment so much that it has nearly lost its meaning. Much like the Pledge of Allegiance in elementary school, the words are robotically recited but rarely pondered.
We all know that Colorado State University is a “land-grant institution.” Just stroll through the Lory Student Center, and you’ll see how proud CSU is of this history.
In the last few months, the internet has fallen under the spell of an old, sleepy dog and his psychic bones. It’s called having a bones or a no bones day, and it’s something some people take very seriously.
Eco-anxiety is something that impacts our lives in many ways, and a lot of Generation Z struggles with imagining what our future will hold amid such an intense climate crisis. For a lot of us, the idea of the future includes potentially having children.
According to a poll by the Morning Consult, “1 in 4 childless adults cite climate change as a ‘major or minor’ reason they don’t have children.”
