Lopez: CSU shows its support for intersectional feminism on campus

Lopez: CSU shows its support for intersectional feminism on campus

Dominique Lopez, Collegian Columnist September 21, 2022
I have spent years considering myself a feminist and thinking it's a movement that includes everyone and every aspect of my identity because that is what I had grown up seeing. However, after I began studying the different aspects of feminism at Colorado State University, I realized how frequently feminism only includes white women’s issues. That means these issues are frequently inclusive to only those of privilege. The issue with modern feminism is one that specifically caters to white women. Women of color should be the people who are showcased in these issues, as they are frequently pushed to the back burner.

Stella: CSU party registration is a good idea but needs improvements

Michael Stella, Collegian Columnist September 21, 2022
Too often in life, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. The Colorado State University Off-Campus Life and City of Fort Collins Party Registration program is a good start to a common problem, but it needs improvement.  The party registration system is part of the city's town-gown programs, said Greg Over, community liaison specialist for Off-Campus Life.

Tusinski: Colorado’s GOP wants to ‘own the libs’ by disowning democracy

Dylan Tusinski, Collegian Columnist September 20, 2022
Let's not beat around the bush: Former President Donald Trump has done irreversible damage to American democracy. The bulk of that damage comes from both the creation and consequences of his following, which has developed a religious-like cult of personality surrounding the former president unlike anything we've seen in American history. The sheer devotion and insanity of that cult culminated on Jan. 6, 2021, when a mob of his supporters unleashed themselves on the American Capitol to forcefully deny the proceedings of American democracy.

Blouch: Polyamory is effective if you communicate properly

Cat Blouch, Staff Reporter September 20, 2022
In 2022, who can really define love?  As society rapidly changes and we move toward new structures of communication, new structures surrounding relationships are created. Research has become more prevalent within the fields of gender and sexuality, and we are beginning to understand relationship structures that are outside the “traditional” one.
Henry: CSU isn't an airline, so why did it oversell parking passes?

Henry: CSU isn’t an airline, so why did it oversell parking passes?

Brendan Henry, Collegian Columnist September 19, 2022
Parking passes are not a cheap expense at Colorado State University. The annual cost for a Z permit pass, allowing the permit holder to access the Z, R and ZR parking spots, is a whopping $584. That kind of money is enough to buy a PlayStation 5 — so you would also expect, at the very least, to be able to park in the lot you paid for.  Like airlines oversell tickets, CSU oversold parking passes. Instead of figuring out where to put the excess cars before the semester started, CSU waited until Sept. 8 to send out an email detailing additional parking locations for pass holders.

Gross: College is a time for piercings — here are the 4 to get

Dillon Gross, Collegian Columnist September 14, 2022
A new season is stirring here at Colorado State University. Is it from college students back on campus, learning the ins and outs of their classes? Or is it the autumnal pumpkin spice starting to brew in the air as it gets cooler? Nope. It’s piercing season.

Burke: Fort Collins embraces graffiti art without the vandalism

Callum Burke, Collegian Columnist September 13, 2022
No one can deny how pleasing to the eye graffiti can be, especially in a town as art-oriented as Fort Collins. Our city is full of public art and seems to embrace the talents of those willing to show it off. Unfortunately, this does not mean anyone who possesses a can of spray paint is able to go to the first brick wall they see fit and start to scribble a cartoon dog or write their name in bubble letters.
Seriously: LSC construction will soon reveal CAM-themed shrine, bakery

Seriously: LSC construction will soon reveal CAM-themed shrine, bakery

Bella Eckburg, Opinion Director September 13, 2022
If you’ve frequented the north side of the Colorado State University Lory Student Center any time in these last few weeks, you’re sure to have seen the construction happening. As I made my way to the CSU Transit center on the first day of school, I found myself puzzled when my usual staircase exit was blocked off, and I had to use the CSU Bookstore stairs. Confused, I called upon the trusty journalists employed by The Collegian to get you, the public, the answers you so desire. What is really happening behind those doors? What could they be building?

Head to Head: Campus preachers cause havoc outside of their message

September 12, 2022

Two columnists go head to head to debate how the Colorado State University community should go about handling the return of the campus preachers to the Lory Student Center Plaza. One author, Michael Stella,...

Burke: 5 ways to stay active while the Rec Center stays busy

Callum Burke, Collegian Columnist September 8, 2022
Another school year has commenced, and with the new semester comes new foolish-minded activities and disciplines attempted to become everyday habits by students. Atop the list of those habits is developing a regular workout routine, usually implementing the many luxuries offered by the Colorado State University Student Recreation Center.

Henry: Get some respect — keep that American flag at half-staff

Brendan Henry, Collegian Columnist September 8, 2022
Walking through campus, you may sometimes notice the American flag is positioned at half-staff. It seems to be that way everywhere, all the time. In the past, it was easy to identify why the flag was positioned this way — a time of mourning across America or a state — but it never seems to rise back up into its official position.  Now, call me a pessimist (I already know), but why not just keep the flag at half-staff permanently? Sure, we grieve over the deaths of politicians and important figures, but are we not also grieving over inflation, unaffordable housing, lack of workers' rights, division among our people and daily injustices committed by and against our own people?

Stella: Let’s take a look back at the Joyce McConnell years

Michael Stella, Collegian Columnist September 8, 2022
Joyce McConnell's tenure as president of Colorado State University was historic from the moment she was hired. McConnell was the first woman hired as president in the university's 152-year-long history. Although McConnell's time at CSU was short — she only served from 2019-22 — she oversaw one of the most tumultuous eras in Colorado history. Within a year of becoming president, McConnell had to lead the university through the COVID-19 pandemic.
