Burke: Hey, CSU, it's time to add a skate park to campus

Burke: Hey, CSU, it’s time to add a skate park to campus

Callum Burke, Collegian Columnist October 4, 2022
Colorado State University is a very wheel-friendly campus. From bicycles to rollerblades to skateboards — even the occasional unicycle — when you step foot on campus you are sure to be met with a countless amount of wheeled vehicles. Since Fort Collins and CSU are well known for being bicycle-friendly, why we do not also possess a skate park on campus for those who partake in the sport to show off their talents?
Interim President Rick Miranda gives the Fall Address at the Oval to a crowd of made up of students, faculty and alumni

Stella: Miranda’s Fall Address reflected on our past, looked to future

Michael Stella, Collegian Columnist October 3, 2022
The presidential Fall Address and University Picnic returned to The Oval on the Colorado State University campus for the first time since 2019 after its cancellation in 2020 as a result of the pandemic and being held on the West Lawn of the Lory Student Center in 2021. A lot has changed for CSU since this speech was last given, including the person giving the speech.
Seriously: It's time to harvest CAM the Ram's wool for profit

Seriously: It’s time to harvest CAM the Ram’s wool for profit

Michael Stella, Collegian Columnist September 28, 2022
The Colorado State University football team had another disappointing weekend inside Canvas Stadium, but as with any home game, there was a constant bright spot: CAM the Ram. Game days are work days for CAM, as he is there for Ram Walk, alumni center activities and the football game itself.

Eckburg: Why would we respect the elders who don’t respect our future?

Bella Eckburg, Opinion Director September 27, 2022
We’ve all heard the phrase “respect your elders,” especially if you grew up in a particularly religious household. Having respect for older generations and their ideas has been a stronghold in American culture for decades — after all, we are deriving our current culture from the culture they grew up in.  Ageism in this country is also common, with people viewing older people as more frail or senile, especially since the idea of being and looking young is so desired in American culture.
Henry: Life is worth more than living in a complacent mindset

Henry: Life is worth more than living in a complacent mindset

Brendan Henry, Collegian Columnist September 26, 2022
Complacency sucks. It creeps up on you right after you say you are going to make a change, and then before you know it, nothing changes. You get stuck in a situation that you and only you can get yourself out of, but it is simply easier to remain as is.  What is complacency? According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, complacency is “self-satisfaction especially when accompanied by unawareness of actual dangers or deficiencies.” Essentially, this means you are comfortable even when things are not necessarily great.
Lopez: CSU shows its support for intersectional feminism on campus

Lopez: CSU shows its support for intersectional feminism on campus

Dominique Lopez, Collegian Columnist September 21, 2022
I have spent years considering myself a feminist and thinking it's a movement that includes everyone and every aspect of my identity because that is what I had grown up seeing. However, after I began studying the different aspects of feminism at Colorado State University, I realized how frequently feminism only includes white women’s issues. That means these issues are frequently inclusive to only those of privilege. The issue with modern feminism is one that specifically caters to white women. Women of color should be the people who are showcased in these issues, as they are frequently pushed to the back burner.

Stella: CSU party registration is a good idea but needs improvements

Michael Stella, Collegian Columnist September 21, 2022
Too often in life, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. The Colorado State University Off-Campus Life and City of Fort Collins Party Registration program is a good start to a common problem, but it needs improvement.  The party registration system is part of the city's town-gown programs, said Greg Over, community liaison specialist for Off-Campus Life.
Tusinski: Colorado's GOP wants to 'own the libs' by disowning democracy

Tusinski: Colorado’s GOP wants to ‘own the libs’ by disowning democracy

Dylan Tusinski, Collegian Columnist September 20, 2022
Let's not beat around the bush: Former President Donald Trump has done irreversible damage to American democracy. The bulk of that damage comes from both the creation and consequences of his following, which has developed a religious-like cult of personality surrounding the former president unlike anything we've seen in American history. The sheer devotion and insanity of that cult culminated on Jan. 6, 2021, when a mob of his supporters unleashed themselves on the American Capitol to forcefully deny the proceedings of American democracy.

Blouch: Polyamory is effective if you communicate properly

Cat Blouch, Staff Reporter September 20, 2022
In 2022, who can really define love?  As society rapidly changes and we move toward new structures of communication, new structures surrounding relationships are created. Research has become more prevalent within the fields of gender and sexuality, and we are beginning to understand relationship structures that are outside the “traditional” one.
Henry: CSU isn't an airline, so why did it oversell parking passes?

Henry: CSU isn’t an airline, so why did it oversell parking passes?

Brendan Henry, Collegian Columnist September 19, 2022
Parking passes are not a cheap expense at Colorado State University. The annual cost for a Z permit pass, allowing the permit holder to access the Z, R and ZR parking spots, is a whopping $584. That kind of money is enough to buy a PlayStation 5 — so you would also expect, at the very least, to be able to park in the lot you paid for.  Like airlines oversell tickets, CSU oversold parking passes. Instead of figuring out where to put the excess cars before the semester started, CSU waited until Sept. 8 to send out an email detailing additional parking locations for pass holders.

Gross: College is a time for piercings — here are the 4 to get

Dillon Gross, Collegian Columnist September 14, 2022
A new season is stirring here at Colorado State University. Is it from college students back on campus, learning the ins and outs of their classes? Or is it the autumnal pumpkin spice starting to brew in the air as it gets cooler? Nope. It’s piercing season.

Burke: Fort Collins embraces graffiti art without the vandalism

Callum Burke, Collegian Columnist September 13, 2022
No one can deny how pleasing to the eye graffiti can be, especially in a town as art-oriented as Fort Collins. Our city is full of public art and seems to embrace the talents of those willing to show it off. Unfortunately, this does not mean anyone who possesses a can of spray paint is able to go to the first brick wall they see fit and start to scribble a cartoon dog or write their name in bubble letters.
