Today is the day that the CSU men’s and women’s cross country team get to see how well their offseason training has paid off.
The Rams will run the 5k course at Hughes Stadium on Friday with seven other teams, marking the only meet the Rams run in Fort Collins during the 2013 season.

Among the field are both Division I and II teams, and some important Mountain West rivals.
Metro State, CU-Denver, Colorado School of Mines, Western State, UNC, Wyoming and the Air Force Academy will all be participating in the meet that is considered almost preseason due to the fact that the result will have no affect on each team’s national standings.
Leading the CSU men’s team is junior Andrew Goodman.
“We’re excited for the first meet just to see how everything has been going for us so far,” Goodman said. “Even though this one doesn’t mean much it will be nice to be out there running again.”
Senior Kaitlin Hannenburg is at the helm of the women’s team. In 2012, Hannenburg finished with second-team All-MW honors, she will be running Friday’s meet with a different plan than her teammates, hoping to follow her conference performance from last season.
“I’m going to be running the 5k a bit different, starting slow and picking it up from there,” Hannenburg said. “Friday will be a good warm up to the field of other runners over the year.”
