Suspect arrested for sexually assaulting sleeping woman

A Fort Collins woman contacted police at 2:07 a.m. Sept. 7 and reported that an unknown man broke into her residence in the 600-block of Balsam Lane and sexually assaulted her, according to a Sept. 16 press release published by Fort Collins Police Services.

The suspect, 22-year-old Tanner Cook, was located by responding Fort Collins police officers who arrested him on charges of burglary and sexual assault, both of which are Class 3 felonies.

Cook is being held in the Larimer County Jail. 

“Sexual assault is a serious crime that impacts our community and is often under-reported,” said Criminal Impact Unit Sergeant Scott Crumbaker. “There are numerous resources and services that are available to victims of these types of crimes. We encourage victims to report to police as soon as possible to aid in the arrest and prosecution of dangerous criminals.”
