The second of 3 presidential debates between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump went down last night at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and Twitter had a lot to say about it. The both highly anticipated and dreaded debate was the number one trending topic on Twitter, which produced a myriad of tweets that summed up the feelings of everyone watching at home. Some may even argue that Twitter was more entertaining to pay attention to than the debate itself. The 2016 election is as out of the ordinary as it can be. And, what better place to publicly react to the debate than Twitter, where people with all political backgrounds and beliefs have the opportunity to chime in?

Hundreds of tweets poured in per second, and it may have been hard to keep up with what people were tweeting, but we compiled the best tweets of the second presidential debate of 2016. Here’s what you missed, just in case you actually paid more attention to the debate than Twitter:

Many people were nervous for Sunday night’s debate as the first presidential debate was nothing short of rocky.

The debate started out a bit awkwardly when both of the candidates chose not to shake each other’s hands when they walked on stage.

Many people noticed and became very annoyed when both candidates started to stray from the question that was asked.

One of the most highly anticipated topics of the debate was Trump’s recent comments about women that were discovered from a recently released tape from 2005. The comments were degrading towards women and suggested that he got away with sexual assault because of his fame.

When he was confronted on the claims, many expected an apology. Most people were highly disappointed with what The Donald had to give for an apology. People commonly insulted him for changing the subject to ISIS in defense of these claims.

YouTuber Grace Helbig wasn’t impressed.

People criticized Trump for trying to put the blame onto Bill Clinton.

What would a debate be if a new meme didn’t come out of the reactions of the candidates? This time the internet chose to make fun of Trump for seeming to hover over Hillary as she spoke, always standing only a few feet behind her, following her steps.

Buzzfeed took to the internet to be one of the first to make fun of how Trump stood directly behind Hillary as she gave a speech.

Twitter users @kellylynndavis and @wolfe321 were one of many to notice that it was odd that Trump was hovering behind Clinton as she spoke.

Many people reacted to Clinton’s claims that she did not delete her emails, which has been a hot topic of debate throughout the entire election so far.

Some people even attempted to warn Clinton about Trump being just a step behind her, as if he were stalking her.

In the end, many people were disappointed with the results of the debate and felt that it was extremely stressful and messy.

A lot of people were extremely observant that the two candidates aimed to insult each other more than they did to answer the question, such as Twitter user @Timcast.

A lot of people were in disbelief with what they just saw, and some even felt like they had lost hope.

Regardless of how people reacted to the debate, it without a doubt was like no debate we’ve ever seen before. The third and final presidential debate takes place on Oct. 19 at University of Nevada.
