If your dancing fix still isn’t satisfied, get a little adventurous with swing dance lessons provided by the Rhythm Company at the Old Town Yoga Studio for only $5 per person on Saturday nights.
Before both classes, basic introduction courses are offered for free to get you warmed up and feeling confident.
“Anyone is welcome to come no matter what their experience level is and you don’t have to have a dance partner,” Peggy Lyle said.
Lyle, alongside her husband, is the founder of Jumpin’ Jive Cats, a swing dance group within the Rhythm Company.
Jumpin’ Jive Cats originally began as a hip hop group.
“When we all started doing Swing Dancing it took over our lives,” Lyle said.
Lyle and her husband have been dancing in Fort Collins for the past 16 years.
“We are certainly passionate about teaching social dance and making sure people have a great time out dancing together,” Lyle said.
Jumpin’ Jive Cats works closely with CSU’s Swing Society, which holds swing dances every Wednesday at 8:15 p.m. for only $1 per person.
Artemisa Garnica, a senior zoology major, is the Swing Society’s vice president.
“I can’t emphasize enough how welcoming the club is, how warm everyone is, how much we just want people to come in and connect through dancing,” Garnica said.
Garnica never expected to develop such a love for dancing with the Swing Society.
“I kept coming back and coming back and then it just snowballed,” Garnica said. “I’ve met some of my best friends in college through this club. It’s a great way to get to know people that you have something in common with.”
Kristin Jordan, senior mechanical engineering major, encourages all students to visit the CSU Swing Society.
“It’s a really fun place to meet other people and learning to dance is a great life skill to have,” Jordan said.
According to Jordan, dance is a universal language.
“Dance brings joy to everyone. You don’t need words to communicate, you just have movement,” Jordan said.
It’s time to grab your sweetheart, get your boogie shoes on, and dance until you drop.
