Participants in a Colorado focus group recently compared President Barack Obama to the Colorado Rockies, according to a recent post by Chris Cillizza and Aaron Blake on the Washington Post’s website.
Democratic pollster Peter Hart conducted the focus group which consisted of 12 people, 10 who had voted for Obama in 2008. Only four of those in the group are still committed to Obama in the upcoming 2012 election.

“President Obama’s challenge is not in the current conditions, but rather, in contending with voters’ disappointment in their unmet high expectations,” Hart wrote in a memo sent to reporters.
That sounds just like the Rockies to me. They’ve been to the playoffs twice in my sports consciousness, and before 2007 I never considered them to be a “good” team. The only thing that made the Rockes a playoff team in 2007 and 2009 was pitching.
They’ve always been able to hit, and this year is no exception. The Rockies have scored 316 runs this season, tops in the National League, and hit 79 home runs, tied for first in the NL. Unfortunately they also have the worst ERA in the NL and that’s why they are 14 games below .500.
If the Rockies could cobble together a halfway decent rotation, maybe they could reach our unrealistic expectations.
