Dear CSU students,
The 2013 Rocky Mountain Showdown, featuring Colorado State University vs. University of Colorado, will take place Sunday, Sept. 1 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver. The kickoff for this highly anticipated event is at 4 p.m. and marks the 85th meeting of the CSU and CU teams. As the chiefs of the Denver, CSU and CU police departments, we want to welcome all spectators to Denver for the game. We are providing the information in this letter to promote a safe and enjoyable environment in and around the stadium.

If you’re coming to the game, please take a moment to become familiar with the new bag policy recently implemented by Mile High. Information is available at http://www.nfl.com/qs/allclear/index.jsp.

All students also should be aware that underage drinking or any other law violations will not be tolerated. There will be a large contingent of uniformed and plain-clothes officers assigned to the event. The primary responsibility of the officers is to maintain a safe environment for everyone attending or participating in the event.

Toward that end, officers will be directed to strictly enforce all applicable local and state laws. Special attention will be focused on alcohol possession and consumption. Violators will be cited and/or arrested for violations, and individuals found to be under the influence of alcohol who may pose a danger to themselves or others may be placed in a detoxification facility. The names of all students cited, arrested and/or ejected from the property will be shared with the CU and CSU Offices of Student Conduct. Students may face administrative sanctions upon their return to campus.

Sports Authority Field staff will be in the parking lots and will seize any banned items, including kegs. Sports Authority Field staff may eject unruly patrons from the site, including parking lots, and may seize their event tickets.

The Rocky Mountain Showdown provides an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, and fans from throughout the state to demonstrate their pride and support for their teams. Please act responsibly, encourage your friends and fellow fans to behave appropriately, travel safely to and from the game and enjoy yourself while in Denver.

Sincerely,

Scott Harris, Chief of Police, Colorado State University
Robert C. White, Chief of Police, City and County of Denver
Joe E. Roy, Chief of Police, University of Colorado Boulder
