Bella Eckburg October 27, 2021
It’s spooky season, and that means it’s time to do some spooky shit with your friends. Grab your mug, fill it to the brim with warm apple cider, settle in and grab a pen — you definitely want to take notes. I present to you the itinerary for your Halloween evening.

Eckburg: The history and difference between psychics and mediums

Bella Eckburg October 26, 2021
There are many ways you can engage with spooky season — visiting a haunted house, going on a ghost tour around Fort Collins, etc. But there’s one aspect of Halloween that won’t end when the final yellow leaves fall from the trees, and that’s supernatural, spiritual readings from psychics and mediums.  Before you jump into a psychic reading headfirst, it’s important to understand the difference between psychics and mediums to ensure you make the most of your experience. There are a few objections to getting psychic readings, but there’s really no harm in trying something out.

Meltzner: Terrifying tales from the tunnels of Fort Collins

JD Meltzner October 26, 2021
Fort Collins, incorporated all the way back in 1873, is not a young place, and as such, it has quite a lot of lore surrounding it. While some of these local legends may not dabble in the macabre, many are tales of haunted buildings and stories of ghosts roaming the town.

As a college student during this pandemic, I, like many of my peers, have had the “best years of my life” uprooted and my future put on hold while decision makers determine when we can resume some sort of normalcy. As a young person born into a climate and extinction crisis, I am unable to ignore drastic global biodiversity loss leading to pandemics under which so many have suffered.

Seriously: 7 sexy costumes for men to wear this Halloween

Nathaniel McKissick October 24, 2021
Halloween is just around the corner, and it’s time for everyone to put on their best costumes, get blackout drunk and throw up in the backseat of an Uber while a friend shoots an apologetic glance at the driver. Cady Heron, the protagonist of the iconic teen comedy "Mean Girls" once described Halloween as, “the one day a year when a girl can dress up like a total slut and no other girls can say anything else about it.”

Seriously: How to gaslight a woman in 5 simple steps

Katrina Leibee October 20, 2021
Men, you’ve likely watched generations of men before you call their girlfriends crazy. Since the dawn of time men have been gaslighting women. For those of you who aren’t quite as experienced, to gaslight means to emotionally manipulate someone and have them question their own sanity.

Meltzner: Fort Collins plans new homeless shelter the right way

JD Meltzner October 18, 2021
The City of Fort Collins' Homelessness Advisory Committee has recommended that a new 24/7 homeless shelter be a top priority for the city. In my previous article, I explained how Denver's problem revolved around the City’s mismanagement of their homeless shelters along with their approach of establishing “safe” outdoor camps without consulting citizens beforehand.

McKissick: Colleges are not liberal indoctrination sites

Nathaniel McKissick October 18, 2021
College campuses have long been known as pillars of liberalism, most notably among those who consider themselves conservative. Accusations of bias have been leveraged against academic professors for decades, and that likely won’t come to an end any time soon.

Seriously: How to properly ride a Spin scooter

Dylan Tusinski October 17, 2021
Back in the good ole days of 2019, Fort Collins was introduced to a new vermin — the Bird Scooter. The pay-as-you-use electric scooters flocked their way into town, littering themselves all over Colorado State University's campus, Old Town and the entire city of Fort Collins.
Eckburg: There's a difference between dark humor and being a jerk

Eckburg: There’s a difference between dark humor and being a jerk

Bella Eckburg October 13, 2021
Black humor, commonly known as dark humor, is defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as “humor marked by the use of usually morbid, ironic, grotesquely comic episodes.”  However, the rise of social media — especially amid a pandemic — has largely contributed to a rise in the normalization of dark humor. Unfortunately, this has also led to people misusing the term and making disgusting jokes about harmful topics under the guise of dark humor.
