For an organization in charge of delegating funding, it seems some representatives in ASCSU have repeatedly mishandled funds and remained unaccountable.

A chant of “Russia, Russia, Russia” erupted from the student section of Moby arena during a recent Colorado State University men’s basketball game against Utah State University. The chant was directed at Max Shulga, a Utah State player from Kyiv, Ukraine.  It has been suggested that the chant arose from ignorance. That if the students only knew of the atrocities Russia is inflicting on the Ukrainian people during its year-long unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, they would have not used this uncivil chant as a tool to try to win a basketball game. 

My name is Mark Kohn and I graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Colorado State University in the winter of 2022. I hold a degree in Human Dimensions of Natural Resources as well as a minor in International Development. In 2020, voters in Colorado passed Proposition 114 in favor of wolf reintroduction. Passing only with the slimmest of margins, Prop. 114 ensured that Colorado agencies use the best available science to introduce wolves to their historical ranges in Colorado. It has been three years since voters raced to their ballot drop-offs to show support or opposition to Prop 114, so where are the wolves?

I, the author, have made the choice to write this article anonymously for a number of reasons. However, the main reason is because of fear of retaliation.  I have seen and know many students that have come forward about the problems within The Associated Students of Colorado State University, and those students have been retaliated against. Anywhere from harassment through texting and social media, to lies being spread about them and damaging their reputation. I, as a student, should not be afraid to ask questions about these issues, yet I am.

As a third-year Business Major at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, life was moving very fast in the Spring of 2022. I was balancing a heavy class load and working 15-20 hours a week. The summer months were on the horizon, and I had not yet secured an internship when I came across an open position at CSU Spur. I decided to investigate further, but little did I know at the time that this was going to be such an engaging and rewarding experience.

In 2013, I moved to Fort Collins as a single parent and sole provider of three children, who at the time were in grades three, four and six. I had a dream of coming back to college at 37 and pulling my children and me out of poverty to change our family trajectory. I applied for every scholarship, loan and grant that I was able to.  Our family moved into international family housing, and I started back on my undergraduate degree in human development and family studies at Colorado State University. I loved every second of my education and felt that I would be able to graduate and pay off the loans. I was a peer advisor in the department of human development and family studies and was ready to apply to every single position in advising as an academic success coordinator possible.

A September article published in the opinion section of The Collegian praised the City of Fort Collins for its plentiful murals while decrying vandalism. It is valuable, I think, to let a vandal defend their practice. So why is graffiti good?   First, graffiti is an ancient cultural practice seen throughout the world and produces, alongside other arts, works of various qualities. Like other art, graffiti can range from simple tags to massive murals with incomprehensible lettering (at least, to those who are not familiar with graffiti) and astounding color combinations.  

The election is upon us. All active registered voters were mailed their ballots. The final day to return your ballot is Election Day, Nov. 8. My office must receive them by 7 p.m. The concept of Election Day as the day you should vote has not been the reality for many, many years. Instead, Election Day represents the deadline and the day that you will finally see the results of votes cast — or at least some results.

To those seeking to eliminate food insecurity, Vote yes on Proposition FF in Colorado this November. This bill offers Colorado the opportunity to partake in making great strides toward ending world hunger by guaranteeing that every child in attendance at participating public schools is provided not only a meal but a healthy one.

This article by Dr. Sydney Freeman Jr. summarizes the reason why my previous role at Colorado State University will likely be the last time I work on anyone’s college campus. I watched that position for years, joyfully accepted and moved across the country for it. A dream come true at the time. I was on the most intentionally inclusive team I've ever experienced, with people I consider friends to this very moment. But the intentions of a few clearly did not reflect the institution as a whole, especially its leadership.

On Monday, April 11, Colorado State University's Office of Inclusive Excellence hosted Naomi Greenspan of the Academic Engagement Network. The Academic Engagement Network lists its mission as seeking "to oppose efforts to delegitimize Israel, to support robust discussion, research and education about Israel in the academy, to promote campus free expression and academic freedom and to counter antisemitism when it occurs on campus.” Greenspan advocates that opposition to Israel is inherently antisemitic. Against this backdrop, it is important to remember why Israel is so often a target of criticism: Israel is a racially segregated state that continues to engage in deliberate ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.

On Thursday, April 21, I submitted my commencement speech to the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences’ council to be presented at the CVMBS spring 2022 graduation. I was the only ethnic student presenting a speech, and I was the only ethnic student in the room, presenting in front of a panel of all-white judges. Can CSU call itself inclusive and diverse if CSU does not directly support first-generation students, immigrants, ethnic students, girls’ education, women’s rights and other minorities in telling their stories?
