Recreational marijuana has been taxed heavily in Oregon since the start of the year. Data was released Thursday showing that $3.4 million in taxes have been collected so far for January sales, according to the Cannabist.

Not all businesses have filed tax returns yet, but 253 individual payments have been made. There are 309 dispensaries in the state licensed to sell recreational marijuana, and they are all required to charge a 25 percent excise tax.
