Hassan earns second MW Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year Award

Mostafa Hassan is doing what he does best: repeating. After defending his NCAA shot put title, Hassan repeated as the Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Men’s Student-Athlete of the Year Award as well. The conference announced Tuesday that Hassan earned the award for the indoor track & field season for the second consecutive year. Hassan becomes only the third repeat winner of the men’s indoor honor.

The accolade comes after Hassan’s dominating performance at the NCAA Championships where he won his second consecutive shot put title by nearly two feet. Hassan registered his highest mark at 20.86 meters. He is the only thrower in conference history to repeat as an NCAA Champion.

A native of Cairo, Egypt, Hassan won his third consecutive MW shot put title this season and stands as the only thrower in conference indoor track & field history to earn the award multiple times. Hassan’s performance at the NCAA Championships also earned him his fifth career First-Team All-American honor. He is only the second Ram in program history to win multiple NCAA titles.

Hassan led Colorado State to a 16th-place finish at the NCAA Championships, the second-best finish in program history. Hassan contributed 10 points to the Rams’ 13 overall points.

CSU will start its outdoor track & field season on Saturday, March 24 at the Mines Nature’s Bakery Invite, hosted by the Colorado School of Mines.
