In their first crack at the Mountain West in 2016, the Colorado State women’s soccer team fell 3-1 to Utah State in a sopping wet Logan, Utah.
Due to the inclement weather, the game was moved from Chuck & Gloria Bell Field, Utah State’s usual playing field, to the Aggie Legacy Field about four hours prior to kickoff.
Colorado State (2-6-1, 0-1-0 MW) found themselves down early after Utah State (5-4-0, 1-0-0 MW) senior forward Jessica Brooksby scored in the 10th minute.
The Aggies never looked back.
Just 15 minutes later, Brooksby would find the back of the net again, extending the Utah State lead to 2-0, which they would carry into halftime.
Utah State didn’t waste much time adding to their lead after halftime. This time, it was freshman forward Alecia Robinson who extended the Aggies’ lead by one in the 58th minute.
Senior captain Amy Eckert managed to get CSU on the board with a goal of her own just a minute later, cutting into the Aggies’ lead with just over 30 minutes to play.
Despite having seven shots on goal, one more than the Aggies, the Rams were unable to bounce back from the early deficit, ultimately losing 3-1.
Colorado State will travel to Boise State for their second Mountain West test on Sunday at 1 p.m.
