Sports Briefs: CSU football ranked, CSU volleyball climbs in RPI

CSU football cracks AP top-25 The Rams’ football team finds themselves ranked for the first time since 2003. Colorado State is ranked No.25 in the USA Today Amway Coaches Poll and No.23 in the AP Top 25, both of which were released Sunday morning. The team had not been ranked in either poll since the week of Aug. 24, 2003 when CSU was No.23 in the preseason AP Poll.

The College Football Playoff rankings will be released in the evening on Tuesday. CSU topped Hawaii 49-22 over the weekend to improve to 9-1 overall and 5-1 in the Mountain West. After opening the season 1-1, the Rams have rattled off eight consecutive wins.

CSU volleyball climbs in rankings, RPI Colorado State volleyball climbed one spot to No.9 in the ACVA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll after sweeping Fresno State on the road over the weekend. They have now been ranked in 25 consecutive polls, and this is the ninth straight time they have been in the top-10.

The Rams also moved up one spot to No.12 in the latest NCAA Rating Percentage Index which is a major factor in NCAA tournament seeding and determining first- and second-round host sites. CSU is 2-1 against ranked opponents this year with a loss to No.4 Wisconsin and wins over No.13 BYU and No.19 Arizona State. They have five matches remaining in the season, four of which are at home. Their next match is at home against Air Force on November 13 at Moby Arena in Fort Collins.
