Sports briefs: Former Rams Bibbs, Barrett make Broncos practice squad

Former Colorado State football stars Kapri Bibbs and Shaquil Barrett were signed to the Denver Broncos practice squad Sunday. Both went undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft but were immediately signed by the Broncos and played through the entire preseason with the team. Each will earn a $100,000 salary if they make it through the entire season with the team.

Hart, Roberts earn Mountain West Player of the Week honors

CSU junior running back Dee Hart was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after rushing for 139 yards and two touchdowns in Friday’s 31-17 win over Colorado. Senior kicker Jared Roberts was also named the Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week after connecting on a 52-yard field goal in Friday’s game in addition to making all four of his PAT attempts.

Volleyball moves to No. 13 in latest poll after weekend sweep

The Colorado State volleyball team moved up five spots to No. 13 in this week’s AVCA coaches’ poll. Colorado State’s Saturday opponent, Wisconsin, moved up to No. 4 and also received five first-place votes. The Badgers will be the highest-ranked team to play at Moby Arena since No. 12 Pepperdine in 2012; the Rams beat the Waves in three sets. A win over Wisconsin – which earned five first-place votes – would be CSU’s 17th all-time over a top-10 team.

CSU soccer team wins historic match over UNC

Head coach Bill Hempen and the CSU women’s soccer team earned its first-ever home win Thursday with a 1-0 win over rival Northern Colorado. Freshman Gianna Bertana chipped the ball over an outstretched UNC goalkeeper for the difference-maker in the 87th minute. The Rams face Portland State Sept. 5 at noon at “The Lagoon” on campus.
