Cross country repeats second-place finish at Griak Invitational

The Colorado State men’s cross country team fell just short of victory Saturday at the Roy Griak Invitational, settling for second place and edged only by Southern Utah for the top men’s team finish. Redshirt freshman Jerrell Mock, competing in his first-ever collegiate cross country race, led the Rams with an impressive time of 24 minutes, 59.6 seconds in the 8K race. He finished seventh overall while the Rams missed first place by only four points.

Volleyball remains at No. 7 in AVCA Coaches Poll

The Colorado State volleyball team extended its winning streak to nine over the weekend, helping the Rams remain at No. 7 in this week’s AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll. The ranking is CSU’s third in a row in the top 10.

Three of CSU’s non-conference opponents are ranked in the top 20 this week: Wisconsin fell one spot to No. 6 after losing to No. 3 Penn State, BYU jumped one spot to No. 10 and Arizona State climbed a pair of spots after defeating then-No. 9 USC on the road. Additionally, Marquette is the top team in the ‘Receiving Votes’ category, unofficially ranked No. 26.

Rams begin basketball practice this weekend

The Colorado State men’s and women’s basketballs team will open their 2014-15 seasons this weekend with their first official practices taking place Friday and Sunday, respectively. The men’s team returns key players JJ Avila, Daniel Bejarano and Joe De Ciman as well as bringing in a host of newcomers.

The women’s squad returns eight players from last year’s team that won the Mountain West regular season title and advanced to the championship game of the Mountain West tournament.

Larry Eustachy and Co. will kick off their 2014-15 schedule on Nov. 10 with a home exhibition matchup against Division II Fort Lewis while the women’s side kicks off their schedule Oct. 30 with an exhibition game against Division II Metro State College.
