CSU Assistant Football Coach Greg Lupfer was suspended for using a homophobic slur during the New Mexico Bowl on December 21, according to a CSU Athletics press release.
During the game, which Rams eventually won 48-45, Lupfer was caught by ESPN cameras saying what appeared to be the words “f—–g f—-t” to Washington State quarterback Connor Halliday.

Lupfer has been placed on a zero-tolerance status regarding this issue. As sanctioned by CSU Director of Athletics Jack Graham, Lupfer was placed under immediate suspension without pay for two weeks, and must attend mandatory anger management and diversity training at his own expense. He has also received an official letter of reprimand.
“I accept these consequences—two weeks without pay and the training programs—and I am thankful for this second chance to continue coaching at Colorado State and be a part of the Ram Family,” Lupfer said in the press release. “I am deeply sorry for my behavior, which does not represent who I am or my values. I embrace the opportunity to participate in anger management and diversity sensitivity training. I was angry and careless with my words, and my words hurt many people. I sincerely apologize to the GLBTQ community for causing pain by using a slur without considering its meaning. I take ownership of my words and fully understand why people are very upset.”
There will be no further comment from the university on this matter.
