After a disappointing 11-19 2012-13 season, CSU’s women’s basketball program will be losing four players that will be transferring out of CSU after the spring 2013 semester.
Starting sophomore point guard LaDeyah Forte will be leaving the university, as well as redshirt sophomore guard Amber Makeever, sophomore forward Morgan Hunt and freshman guard Taylor Varsho, according to CSU’s women’s basketball information director Danielle Marshall.
Forte led the Rams with 3.5 assists per game last year and had the fifth-best assist to turnovers ratio in the Mountain West Conference last year at 1.3.
Forte, Varsho and Hunt have not yet decided where to continue their collegiate basketball careers, but Makeever has verbally committed to the University of Central Oklahoma and says she will be signing with the program in a few days.
“I would like to let all of you know that I just verbally committed and will be signing in a few days to transfer and play basketball at the University of Central Oklahoma!!” Makeever announced on her Instagram account Tuesday. “I am beyond blessed for this opportunity and absolutely can not wait to play basketball as a BRONCHO!!”
CSU coach Ryun Williams offered his support Wednesday to the athletes transferring out of his program and said the university will aid in finding a place for Forte, Varsho and Hunt to continue their careers.
“They have chosen to continue their college basketball careers elsewhere and we will support them in that process, and help them find a place where they can thrive,” he said.
