The Colorado State University’s Ranch Horse Versatility Team held their Silver Jubilee collegiate and open event on October 10th through 12th. Members competed individually in ranch horse pleasure, reining, cow work and trail categories. The Silver Jubilee was sanctioned by the American Stock Horse Association, and included a cow work clinic on Friday afternoon with the event judge. Participants not only had a chance to get pointers, but also improve their cow work skills before Saturday’s competition. Many events in the industry that require the horse and rider to become more and more specialized such as cutting horse competitions where the horse and rider move one cow out from the herd and then try to keep the cow from rejoining the group. The ASHA’s mission is to provide opportunities for competitors to highlight the versatility of the working stock horse. Dixie Crowe can be reached at blogs@collegian.com.
