One adult was found deceased at the scene of a house fire that took place Sunday evening, March 28, on the 800 block of Peterson Street, according to a Poudre Fire Authority press release.

At about 8 p.m., firefighters found smoke and flames at the back of the house.

The house sustained “extensive smoke damage,” according to the press release. Firefighters extinguished the fire in the basement of the house.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by a PFA fire investigator in collaboration with Fort Collins Police Services, according to the release.

“The victim was the only person home at the time of the fire,” the release said. “There were no other injuries or structures involved.”

The Larimer County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased and the cause of death at a later time.
