Man charged with attempted murder after injuring a six-week-old infant

Fort Collins Police Services have arrested a man on suspicions of attempted murder and child abuse after he allegedly injured a six-week-old infant.

The infant was taken to the hospital after suffering serious head injuries on March 5, 2019, according to FCPS. Hospital staff notified police, who launched an investigation on suspicion of child abuse.

Fort Collins police detectives determined that Edgar Beckford, 24, caused the injuries while the infant was in his care, police said.

Beckford was arrested with charges of attempted first-degree murder, a Class 2 felony, and child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, a Class 3 felony, according to a press release issued by FCPS.

Beckford has been booked into Larimer County Jail. 

According to FCPS, all charges are an accusation, and all arrested parties remain innocent until proven guilty.
