Suspect in custody for sexually assaulting 11-year-old girl

Fort Collins Police arrested 58-year-old Daniel Engilman for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old female in Eastside Park at 12:38 p.m. Sunday.

The girl was walking her dog at around 11 a.m. Sunday when Engilman approached her, inappropriately touched her and briefly refused to let her leave. The child was able to escape and contacted her family, who notified the police at 12:09 p.m. The girl did not know Engilman.

Engilman has been arrested on charges of Sex Assault on a Child and False Imprisonment. 

Officers arrested Engilman at 12:38 p.m., according to Fort Collins Police. 

 

Police encourage citizens to keep these personal safety tips in mind:

  • Let others know your intended area of travel and anticipated return time.
  • Always take note of your surroundings.
  • Avoid distractions that limit your awareness.
  • Report all suspicious activity to police.
  • Trust your instincts. If something feels off, change your course.

    I live in this neighborhood. Every time we complain about the many homeless people who camp out in this park (which is immediately adjacent to an elementary school park), we hear the same crap. You can’t discriminate. That park is there for everyone. You know what, it actually is NOT there for people to lay around drunk, to have sex under the canopy near the restroom, and now to molest little girls. It would be nice if we could give some thought and priority to regular citizens besides these losers. They are ruining a lot of Fort Collins.
