Parking and Transportation Services is allowing students to clean out their pantry and get rid of lingering parking fines. Up through Friday, May 13 students can bring in a can of food or make a two dollar donation to the Larimer County Food Pantry to receive a discount on their parking fines.

“It helps on all fronts, and is just kind of a good will gesture,” said Brian Grube, associated director of finance and administration for Parking and Transportation Services.

Students can bring in a can of food or make a $2 donation to the Larimer County Foodbank and receive $5 off a parking citation less than 14 days old. After a citation goes unpaid for 14 days it doubles. By bringing in a can of food the citation can be reduced to its original amount.

If a citation is unpaid for over 30 days and has been billed to the student’s account, the Food for Fines program can’t be applied.

The Food for Fines program is a tradition at CSU, with donation totals traced back to 2008. The program, which occurs at the end of each the fall and spring semester, brings in an average of 450 pounds of food donations.

“I think it’s a good thing because CSU is able to give back to the community as they are helping their students,” said Shannon Martin, a junior in apparel and merchandising.

Monetary donations must be made online, and for additional information visit the Parking and Transportation website.

This headline is grammatically incorrect. It should say “Students can donate to Larimer County Food Bank to reduce parking fines”, not “reducing”.
