Friday city officials in Alaska voted to pass a new measure that will legalize public use of marijuana, according to ABC News.

Marijuana has been legal in Alaska since early November, but no dispensaries have opened yet. When they do, this new bill will allow customers to use the drug inside a dispensary. There are three other states that have legalized recreational use of marijuana, but none have allowed public use.

Bruce Schulte, board chairman, proposed the amendment. Since then, the board has been fine-tuning the definition of “public”. The amendment is designed to give dispensaries more freedom when it comes to onsite use.

“This would put, I think, Alaska in the forefront on this issue,” said Chris Lindsey, legislative analyst for the Marijuana Policy Project.
