Parcells: Devaluing some academic fields has sexist, elitist implications

Parcells: Devaluing some academic fields has sexist, elitist implications

Hannah Parcells, News Editor January 25, 2024
As college students, we are surrounded by people with different goals, passions and talents. A college campus is one of the few places where you get to interact with people from multiple different fields of study almost constantly.
Pavelko: Taylor Swift spoiled her fans to her own downfall

Pavelko: Taylor Swift spoiled her fans to her own downfall

Hana Pavelko, Collegian Columnist January 24, 2024
As a teenage girl, I listened to nothing but Taylor Swift. But even though her music does make up a large amount of some of my playlists, she’s not the only artist I listen to. And I can’t deny that I know the words to every one of her songs. I like her music, and I am not ashamed to admit it.
Proulx: CO Supreme Court decision on Trump highlights desensitized America

Proulx: CO Supreme Court decision on Trump highlights desensitized America

Caden Proulx, Print Editor January 18, 2024
The Colorado Supreme Court ruled that Trump will be disqualified from the state's 2024 presidential ballot. It cites the 14th Amendment of the constitution, which states an individual cannot hold office if they “have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the (U.S.) or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”

Souza: Designer stuff really isn’t worth all the rage

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist January 16, 2024
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I am fully convinced that if Gucci put their logo on a used toothbrush and listed it as Vintage-Bristled Brush with Spit Marbling, someone in the world would buy it in a heartbeat.

Cook: Sports culture is something that’s just better abroad

Damon Cook, Sports Editor January 16, 2024
Many Americans like to coin the United States as the greatest country on the planet. While that might be true in some aspects, in the context of sports culture and fandom, that’s plainly and simply not the case.

Pavelko: What is CSU doing to help international students feel welcome?

Hana Pavelko, Collegian Columnist December 5, 2023
Over 1,850 people at Colorado State University are international students, making up less than 6% of the student body. They come from all corners of the world, with a large percentage of the international student body hailing from China, India and Indonesia.

Souza: CSU dining halls should include more diverse foods

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist December 4, 2023
Several of the Colorado State University dining halls feature international sections on their daily menus. The food served consists of cultural tastings from several different areas around the globe. Frequent meals include carnitas bowls, poke and rice, chicken tikka masala and spicy chicken with kimchi and furikake.
Proulx: Stop forcing heteronormativity on queer love

Proulx: Stop forcing heteronormativity on queer love

Caden Proulx, Print Editor November 29, 2023
Don’t get me wrong: I love the romances of Nick and Charlie from "Heartstopper" or Elio and Oliver from "Call Me by Your Name" as much as the next person. The problem is that almost all popular queer media depict homosexual relationships as only this certain top-bottom, fem-masc way, stemming from a culture of heteronormativity pressed onto the queer community. And this falls woefully short of displaying the vast diversity and beauty present within LGBTQIA+ relationships.

Souza: There are no limits to how you label yourself

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist November 28, 2023
Over the past few decades, the dialogue around sexuality and gender has vastly expanded in the United States. There is still a lot of progress to be made toward dismantling stigmas, implementing inclusive legislation and increasing representation of LGBTQIA+ people in media, but society as a whole broadly discusses such topics now more than they did in the past.

Pavelko: Bisexuality is an identity, not a phase

Hana Pavelko, Collegian Columnist November 27, 2023
Pride flags allow people to express themselves, find a piece of who they are and discover a community of people who support them. These flags can help people be their true selves. However, there is a strong amount of judgment concerning a certain pink, purple and blue flag.

Souza: Not including students in ‘real’ world is destroying self-efficacy

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist November 15, 2023
Spending four years in a box with minimal windows, fluorescent lighting and the inescapable smell of milk — aka the Andrew G. Clark Building — takes enough sheer power to warrant my diploma alone. Evidently, college consists of a lot more work than just going to class, and the best case result of my degree would be a prepared send-off into the world — forgive me, the “real” world.
