In 2014, cosplay took a turn for the best, becoming popular in both nerd and common-folk circles alike. To celebrate a year of growing success, Japan held a “comiket”  to invite people to pull off their best costumes before the new year began.

The event took place from December 28th to the 30th and attendance was the highest it’s ever been for the winter Comiket, with over 560,000 attendees. Outside the main halls, dedicated cosplay areas were filled with people dressed up as their favorite characters, or notable people/things from the news, as… stuff. “
