Lawmakers in the District of Columbia voted Tuesday to permanently ban clubs that would allow the recreational smoking of marijuana. According to ABC News, the measure was passed 7-6 blocking the city from furthering its legalization process.

This legislation was passed to help regulate the growing marijuana industry. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson argued that allowing pot clubs in the city would prevent authorities from effectively regulating use of the drug.

Some members of the Washington D.C. Council argue that there are loopholes to this law. For example, businesses that charge a membership fee for an area that is designated for pot smoking could bypass the new measure. To read more about the bill, check out the full article.
