According to Urban Dictionary, the definition for “munchies” is: consumption of copious amounts of carbohydrates and essential polyunsaturated fatty acids after inhaling the byproduct of combusting the hemp plant.

Although this definition is extremely wordy and complicated, most college students would define the term “munchies” (or drunchies), as: the inescapable feeling of the extreme need to consume every bit of junk food around you after a long night of drinking, and/or smoking marijuana. 

Lucky for us students at Colorado State University, Fort Collins is full of munchie-satisfying food places in close proximity and have late night hours, especially on the weekends.

Below is a list, in no particular order, of late night and affordable eateries, and their corresponding hours of operation. You’re welcome. 

1. Qdoba

Sorry Chipotle fans, but Qdoba definitely has the monopoly for late night customers here in Fort Collins. With its prime location right across from Moby Arena, extremely late hours, (open until 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays) and FREE GUAC, Qdoba is essentially a popular choice after a late night out. 

Hours: Sunday — Thursday: 6:30 a.m. — 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday: 6:30 a.m. — 3 a.m. 

2. McDonald’s 

McDonald’s will be forever a classic late-night pit stop. Even if you spontaneously decide to turn up on a random Monday night at 4:00 a.m., McDonald’s, and its 24-hour service, will be prepared to satisfy your munchies with as many Big Macs as you can afford. 

Hours: Open 24/7 every day of the week

3. Sonic

With over 168,000 different drink combinations, foot-long coneys and tater tots that could satisfy any type of craving, Sonic is also an ideal late-night food place. Not to mention, the Sonic on Elizabeth Street has an unique and almost unheard of feature where you could actually sit and eat inside of the fast food restaurant. 

Hours: 7  — 12 a.m. every day of the week

4. Fat Shack

Anyone who has ever eaten at Fat Shack could wholeheartedly and confidently say that Fat Shack serves fried diabetes … in the best and most appealing way possible, especially while having the munchies. One example of their specialty sandwiches is the “Fat Shack,” which contains cheesesteak, chicken fingers, jalapeño poppers, mozzarella sticks, french fries and onion, all combined into one sandwich. 

Hours: Sunday and Monday: 11 a.m. — 1 a.m., Tuesday — Thursday: 11 a.m. — 3 a.m., and Friday and Saturday: 11 a.m. — 4 a.m.

5. Cheba Hut

Known for its marijuana-themed sandwiches, brownies and other food items, Cheba Hut is almost the go-to when it comes to the munchies. It’s hard to beat a place with a logo sporting two marijuana leafed palm trees … 

Hours: Sunday— Thursday: 10 a.m. — 12 a.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. — 3 a.m. 

6. DP Dough

DP Dough is especially known for their many different calzone combinations, which is a perfect change from eating pizza for three weekends straight. 

Hours: Sunday: 11 a.m. — 1 a.m., Monday — Wednesday: 11 a.m. — 2 a.m., Thursday — Saturday: 11 a.m. — 3 a.m. 

7. Cosmo’s Pizza

Speaking of pizza for three weekends straight, I personally wouldn’t mind if I had to eat Cosmo’s Pizza for the rest of my life. Their spicy ranch, in particular, is a popular dipping sauce for their as-big-as-your-face pizza slices. 

Hours: 11 — 2:30 a.m. every day of the week. 

8. Krazy Karl’s 

Like Cosmo’s Pizza, Krazy Karl’s also has a specialty of their own. Many venture to Krazy Karl’s for the huge dollops of cream cheese that they put on their already amazing pizzas, to make them even more amazing. It is highly recommended to try their pizza with cream cheese at least once in your life. 

Hours: 10:30 — 3 a.m. every day of the week. 

9. Taco Bell

Despite the poor unfortunate souls who have had to spend their entire night in the bathroom after a meal at Taco Bell, this late night food place is still a popular choice for a cheap bite to eat. Please refer to the hours below before you trek all the way to Taco Bell, because it would be pretty depressing to miss out on crunchy tacos by 30 minutes. 

Hours: Sunday — Monday: 7 a.m. — 1 a.m., Tuesday — Thursday: 7 a.m. — 1:30 a.m., Friday: 7 a.m. — 3:30 a.m., Saturday: 7 a.m. — 2:30 a.m. 

10. Fuzzy’s Taco Shop

If you want to play it safe for the night by skipping out on the Taco Bell runs, but wouldn’t mind spending a little extra money, Fuzzy’s Taco Shop has you covered. Food aside, many individuals choose Fuzzy’s for their unique beeritas and fish bowls, before hitting the other bars in Old Town. 

Hours: Sunday: 9 a.m. — 11 p.m., Monday — Wednesday: 8 a.m. — 11 p.m., Thursday — Saturday: 8 a.m. — 12 a.m.
