CSU’s Secor, Prendergast going strong in off season

After leading the Rams last year and making individual appearances in the 2018 NCAA Women’s golf tournament, Ellen Secor and Katrina Prendergast are making the most of their time as the summer comes to a close, the athletics department announced.

Secor won the Oregon Public Link Championship over the weekend while Prendergast finished second in the Utah Women’s Open Aug. 9.

Secor took the championship after a dramatic playoff with Victoria Gailey from Tigard, Oregon in what could of been a very tough loss. Secor was in the lead after the first day of play, shooting a 2-under 68 on Saturday and held a two-shot lead on the field.

The second day started just as well for Secor as she was at 1-under going into the back nine. Things took a slide from there after a few miscues led to three bogeys and helped set up a playoff with Gailey. The two came through the first playoff hole together, but Secor was able to take the championship on the second.

Prendergast also had a somewhat dramatic tournament in the Utah Women’s Open, shooting a 77 on the first day. She was able to come back on the second day while shooting a round of 63, the lowest scoring round for an amateur in the tournament.
