The entire Colorado State men’s and women’s track and field squads competed together for the first time this season Saturday when each team took third place respectively at the Mark Colligan Memorial meet in Lincoln, Nebraska. In addition to the host team Nebraska, the Rams also competed against Wichita State and Illinois State.

Senior transfer Karly Reimel broke a CSU record that had stood for over a decade by posting a mark of 12 feet and 10.75 inches in the women’s indoor pole vault, topping the previous record by 4.5 inches.

“I was surprised,” CSU coach Brian Bedard said of Reimel’s performance. “She was sick most of the week.”

The Rams cleaned up in the 60-meter dash. Josh DeLoach won the men’s side with a time of 6.70 seconds while Leah Fair won the women’s side with a time of 7.52. Fair also won the women’s 200-meter dash with a time of 24.13 seconds.

In just this season, Fair has now won four out of the five individual races she has competed in, and is also a two-time Mountain West Women’s Track Athlete of the Week honoree.

“She’s a rock,” Bedard said of Fair’s consistency. “She’s very regimented with her warm-up and extremely focused. She’s competitive.”

CSU competitors also finished first in both the men’s and women’s shot put. Tyler Schultz won the men’s side with a throw of 56-3, while Aaliyah Pete won the women’s side with a throw a 52 feet even, nearly three feet more than the second highest mark.

CSU distance runner Jefferson Abbey continued to build on his success this season by winning the men’s mile with a time of 4:06:34. In the women’s mile, CSU runners Darby Gillifan and Laura Yarrow finished second and third, respectively.

Up next, CSU will get a taste of the venue that will be host to the 2016 MW Indoor Track and Field Championships when it heads to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the New Mexico Team Invitational Jan. 30.
