CSU punter Hayden Hunt named second-team All-American

Colorado State standout punter Hayden Hunt was named a second-team All-American selection Tuesday by USA Today. Along with All-American honors, Hunt has an opportunity to cap off an extraordinary season by becoming the first Mountain West player to win the prestigious Ray Guy Award, which goes to the best punter in college football.

Hunt has already been named to the second-team All-Mountain West team, and as a finalist for the Ray Guy Award, Hunt will attend ESPN’s College Football Awards show in Orlando, Florida later this week.  Michael Carrizosa of San Jose State (first-team All-Mountain West) and Tom Hackett of Utah (2014 Ray Guy Winner, 2015 first-team All-American) are the other candidates.

Statistically, Hunt has been phenomenal all season. His average of 46.3 yards per punt is impressive, and more importantly he has been accurate and been able to pin opponents deep in their own territory. Colorado State’s net average of 42.37 yards per kick is second best in the nation.

Hunt has pinned 23 of his 50 punts inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. Only one of his 50 punt attempts went through the end-zone for a touchback.
