College is about reading. Unfortunately, most of the time this means slogging through 30 pages of academic blather on some obscure topic. But like the Stark’s always say, “Winter break is coming,” and that means we can finally read something for the enjoyment. Here are five suggestions for your winter-reading pleasure.

• The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson
  Most fantasy series are years-long endeavors. This trilogy is of manageable size, short enough to be read all the way through in one month if you get sufficiently wrapped up in the story. Fast-paced, unpredictable, magic, swords. It’s all there.
• Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace
  This book is a behemoth and will require dedication. Wallace’s masterpiece is a literary marvel and is supposed to be well worth the effort.
• In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
  This is a classic true-crime story, the first of its kind and possibly the best. An engrossing non-fiction novel about the murder of a Kansas family that is hard to put away.
• The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz
  Winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for fiction, this book is 300 pages of incredible style and story. A must read for any with literary leanings.
• Double Down by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann
  Telling the inside story of the 2012 Presidential election, this book is perfect for anyone longing for the lost entertainment of the Republican primary debates and eagerly awaiting the 2016 election cycle.
