Fashion News Friday – Amazon Beauty, Stefani for OPI, R & J Forever

TGIF!

It’s time for another post in my Fashion News Friday series. I think it’s good to be aware of actual newsworthy events happening in the industry other than tips and trends because they alter our culture concurrently.

Familiar with the e-commerce site Amazon? As of late, they opened their “Luxury Beauty Store,” where they plan on selling prestigious cosmetics from brands like Nars, Lorac, Stila and many more. While many products on Amazon are typically discounted, these beauty products are not to keep the integrity of the prestigious brands. Amazon hopes to create a luxe environment through a more attractive visual presentation on their website to change the perception that Amazon doesn’t just sell discounted products. Right now, there are 24 signed on brands, that will hopefully expand based on the success of the current brands right now. The website is also divided into categories such as hair, makeup, skin and nails. The design is very customized and focuses on the customer and their preferences. Amazon has luxurious customers, so why not have a luxurious store?

Love OPI nail collabs? So do I! Gwen Stefani is next up on the collab list, releasing a collection with OPI in January 2014. Incidentally, the collection is inspired by the punk theme of the Met gala last year (now you know why I’m excited about this release!). The collection will feature Gwen-inspired polishes with glossy cremes, semi-matte satins, chromes and glitter finishes. The collection will also include Swarovski Elements, a nail art kit. The collection is a perfect combination of haute couture and street fashion.

This may not be directly fashion related, but there is a new Romeo & Juliet coming out! This time in the classic story of star-crossed lovers, Romeo is played by Douglas Booth, former Burberry model and Hailee Steinfeld, True Grit and Ender’s Game actress. The movie will also feature the ever-gorgeous Ed Westwick, Gossip Girl bad-boy heartthrob, as Tybalt. If this movie is anything like The Great Gatsby, the fashion inspiration coming out of it will be monumental. Stay tuned for Venetian inspired Renaissance fashion influence. The movie hits theaters today, October 11.
