Fort Collins Police Services issued a statement Feb. 4 announcing that Officer Andrew James Cirone, 31, had turned himself in to Larimer County Jail following investigation into an allegation of misconduct. The investigation began Oct. 17, 2025, after a woman notified FCPS that Cirone had requested inappropriate images of her adult daughter when she was a juvenile.
Per FCPS policy, Cirone was reassigned at the launch of the administrative investigation and removed from any role that required interaction with the public. A criminal investigation was subsequently initiated when evidence of potential criminal components was revealed, at which point Cirone was placed on paid administrative leave beginning Dec. 30, 2025.
Cirone was booked Feb. 4 on one count of Attempted Sexual Exploitation of a Child, a class 6 felony, and one count of First Degree Official Misconduct, a class 1 misdemeanor. As mandated by city and agency policies, the case will later be examined by the Citizen Review Board.
The review of witness statements, body worn camera footage, case reports and other evidence revealed that Cirone failed to adhere to FCPS investigative procedures on multiple occasions. According to the FCPS statement, detectives are concerned there may be additional victims associated with Cirone. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the FCPS Tipline at 970-416-2125 or Larimer County Crime Stoppers at 970-221-6868.
“As public servants, there are clear expectations for police conduct,” said FCPS Chief of Police Jeff Swoboda in the statement. “And while our agency cannot publicly discuss the specifics of the case right now, I want our Fort Collins community to know that we are committed to transparency, even when it concerns the misconduct of one of our own employees. Accountability is essential to maintaining public trust, and we will continue to cooperate fully with all appropriate reviews to ensure our actions reflect the standards our community expects and deserves.”
