Asian Pacific American Cultural Awareness Month events being held by APAC

The month of April is awareness month for the Asian Pacific American Cultural center. There are various events that the organization will be holding in order to promote their organization and educate CSU, like musical performances, a martial arts demonstration and lectures.

“Asian Pacific Islander Awareness month is a continuation of the Asian Fest, which is something that has been running for a number of years, but we wanted to make this event more inclusive,” said Justin Miyashiro, president of the Pacific American Student Association.

All students are welcome to any of these events.

“The ultimate goal is to bring Asian Pacific Islander culture to campus through a number of fun events to get folks to see what the culture is about. … Being a part of this community is really about being a part of a group of people that have a shared experience,” Miyashiro said.

The schedule consists of the following:

April 12 (3 – 4 p.m.): Denver Taiko Performance in the Lory Student Center Theater. Free for students and $5 for community members.

April 16 (4:30 – 6 p.m.): Free API student and faculty night located at the LSC in room 304. There will be free food, networking and a Q and A session with the APAC community and Asian Pacific Islander students.
