900-space parking lot to be built on South Campus by Fall 2015

Colorado State University is planning to build a 900-space parking lot on the southeast side of the Fort Collins South Campus.

“The University has submitted a conceptual review to the city, including a traffic study and preliminary storm water analysis, for a parking lot on Research Drive,” CSU Facilities Management Landscape Architecht Fred Haberecht wrote in an e-mail to the Collegian.

The parking lot will be located at 2400 Research Blvd., southwest of the CSU Tennis Complex, according to the South Campus Parking Lot Program Plan. It will have access points off of Research Boulevard, Centre Avenue and Gillette Drive, according to a February traffic impact study.

Haberecht stated the project should be completed by the beginning of the fall semester. Construction will begin in May and run through the middle of August.

“Construction will not impact traffic flow in the area,” Haberecht wrote.

Two Transfort routes will have stops near the lot to help people get to campus, according to Haberecht.

The project is estimated to cost $5.4 million, and will be paid for by parking revenues, including permits, fees and fines, according to Haberecht.

“The parking lot will accommodate a shift in parking inventory locations (not projected student growth),” Haberecht wrote.
